Upside down

A poem about an October Surprise

He had to
run in place
to catch up
to where he was
before the virus
turned the world
upside down.

Then came the day
it stopped him
in his tracks,

giving him
a chance
to show
compassion
to a nation

from up there
in his tower
looking down.

Instead,
he reemerged
rebranded as
a resurrected hero
for us losers
and cowards.

But when
he grasped
the tragedy
of red blood
turning blue,
he finally prayed,

not for the fallen
parents,
children,
sons
and daughters,

but for his
reelection.
