“We the People” they began,
but “We the People” were only men,
just rich and White men if you please,
the “Blessings of Liberty” did not embrace
the Black Race, the Woman, and the Indian.

The Black Man was at least a fractional man,
3/5 to be exact.
Why that ratio was decreed I could not say
but it filled a need.

And like the Tree in the Garden of Eden the fruit was borne
that would leave the nation fearfully torn.
They could not see their nation fall
from a noble idea that was not for all.

Resistance Poetry

I studied religion at the UC-Berkeley and have been interested in the spirit ever since. I try to give my poems a spiritual aspect whenever possible.
