Women’s Oppression Within Religion
free verse poetry
A veil, emblems, colours,
For those of second class standing,
Born into a body oppressed by men.
To manipulate, feed their egos
In the name of their God.
For man is more significant than woman,
God is a man ! man is made in the image of God!
Teachings and learnings throughout the ages,
Moulded for the advantage of men.
Women allowed by men to partake
In religious ceremony at times chosen
To suit his ego of self-important demands.
For to be of equal standing would mean
Women would be as important as men?
Men are appointed Spiritual leaders,
No role for a woman!
As instructed by their self appointed
Misogynist God.
To dress women in a way to find
No temptation for another’s wandering eye.
The same wandering eye
They themselves possess.
Their God’s instructions to
Keep women under control, for they are temptation,
This temptation will reveal the weakness of man.
Again, all blame averted for man’s sorry perversion.
