THE COLOUR OF HUMAN URINE AND HOW IT CAN INDICATE HEALTH PROBLEMS .

The color of urine is usually from pale-yellow to deep amber. This color is mainly due to pigment urochrome which is also known as urobilin.

UROCHROME — it is a linear tetrapyrrole compound pigment which is responsible for the normal colour of our urine ,generally it is a breakdown product of the haemoglobin and excreted from the body with the help of kidneys through the urine .A pigment absorbs certain amount of wavelength of the incident rays and reflected the complementary wavelength ,which makes them of a particular colouration .

DRINKING OF LESS WATER -When we consume less amount of water, it is seen that the color of urine is dark yellow because the concentration of water becomes less . Again when we drink normal amount of water the colour becomes normal because the water concentration increases .So,the most common cause for temporary deep yellow or deep amber colouration of our urine is dehydration or drinking of less water .

SOME DISEASES THAT CAN CAUSE DIFFERENT CHANGES IN THE URINE PROPERTIES-

Now,if the deep yellow or deep amber colouration of urine does not returns to normal after drinking normal quantity of water this might indicates hepatic diseases like hepatitis. If there is hepatitis in the body, then bilirubin is responsible for that yellow color of urine . In hepatitis the level of bilirubin becomes so high that it is also excreted from the body through urine. However, in addition to hepatitis, various drugs, vitamins (especially riboflavin and cobalamine ), etc. can also form a bright yellow urine. Urine other than yellow can be caused by diseases of the kidneys, liver, or bladder, and diseases of these organs also cause a strong odour of urine generally. In case of Kidney diseases foamy urine gets produced and also cause a strong odour .
