I am currently writing this article in the thickness of grief. On the first of March, my dad passed away. He was 72 years of age and quite the man. For years, he had single-handedly raised my siblings and me after our mother’s death in 2005. As you can imagine, I haven’t been able to do much writing, but I have been thinking about the brevity of life.

I am forever grateful for the many memories I have of my dad. He was very intentional about creating lasting memories with us.

Being Intentional

Ever since my mum passed away when I was a teenager, my family have been intentional about time spent together. We document our family meetings, make videos, take pictures, and talk about our family history. My dad used to say to us that we should always record our family gatherings. Now he is no longer alive — I value those videos. I have them saved on my Google drive. I will never forget the sound of his voice; it's all there in the videos.
