No matter who you are, what you look like, or where you’re from, I think it’s safe to safe we all appreciate music.

An ethnic minority, I become acrimonious whenever I hear anyone badmouthing rap music and hip-hop culture, especially when the justification centers around the use of expletives. A lot of those conversations feel like attempts by people (most of whom are White) to disparage this genre simply because it’s predominantly Black. That’s why I love artists like Wiz Khalifa, whose style has been able to transcend ethnic and racial divides despite his minority status.

I found myself listening to one of his classic albums over the weekend and was surprised by the visceral response I had to it.

From time to time, I like to listen to music I was fond of as a teenager or when I was younger to see if it still resonates with me.

That’s the easiest way to see if a song or album is a true classic. For whatever reason, I was led to Rolling
