Pedphilia a Sexuality or not?
As I was scrolling though Twitter I came across a post claiming “pedophilia isn’t a sexuality!” At first I was confused because I didn’t even know what pedophilia was. In my head, I thought it had something to do with feet like pedicure or something. As I kept reading through the thread I was seeing other people’s angry replies towards the tweet and I felt like it was something bad.
What is Pedophilia?
I decided to do my research pedophilia means child and friendly love. The word is used to describe individuals with a primary or exclusive sexual interest in prepubescent children ages 13 or younger. Pedophilia is seen as a disorder. The diagnosis for someone with this disorder is to be at least 16 years of age and at least five years older than the prepubescent child in order to be considered as pedophilia.
Why its “OK”
Some claims people have made defending pedophilia as a sexuality is that “people who commit sexual abuse are sometimes pedophiles, child sexual abuse offenders are not pedophiles unless they have a primary or exclusive sexual interest in prepubescent children, and sometimes pedophiles do not molest children.” What’s your opinion on that? Feel free to comment below. Another comment they made is that “pedophilia isn’t chosen its self-discovered making it similar to heterosexual or homosexual orientation.” They claim that they don’t harm children and in order to get off they result to child pornography, which is illegal. In my opinion this shouldn’t be considered a sexuality because its giving people who are child abusers a good view and that’s not right.
Why its WRONG!
People against pedophilia claim “Pedophilia shouldn’t be considered a sexual orientation because pedophilic acts cause harm to children.” Children who are prepubescent aren’t even old to be having sexual intercourse. That should be considered wrong on many levels since children aren’t able to consent either. The fact that they are trying to make it a sexuality isn’t even the justifiable. They claim that they are able to control themselves with their urges. They say that some pedophiles fall in love with children and therefore because they are trying to protect the child they don’t act out their desires. There are three categories for pedophiles and the way they act out.
1. Abstinent pedophiles, the ones who choose to never have a sexual relationship with children.
2. Passive pedophiles, who refrain from action out not by choice but because of external factors they can’t control.
3. Active pedophiles, who are ready and willing to act out, weather by waiting for an opportunity or by actively seeking one.
With those three and people think pedophiles aren’t dangerous. The third one really shows how some people will do anything to get what they want even if it means hurting a child. The fact that they are praising pedophilia like a sexuality isn’t right. Yes, maybe not everyone acts out but it’s not right to let these pedophiles think what they do is okay.
Why is this important?
In class, we are learning about how the government doesn’t do much to protect people and how right now we really have a sucky government and a child as our president. The fact that our president acts like a child and praises thing that make you want to question his mental health is crazy. He hasn’t done anything about gun control which is a problem that has grown ever since he has gone into office. He is a racist person and if the U.S. weren’t established right he would be considered a dictator and act upon his hate. Luckily he doesn’t have all the power. I fear for America mainly because he makes things like pedophilia acceptable. He can influence many people with one tweet and only because people don’t do the research and take his word for it. Since our president is so passive people come out thinking that they can have an excuse for the bad things they do. Like a school shooter being justified since he was bullied. We need a better America and we can’t start allowing for people to start claiming their sexual attraction for children is a sexual orientation when its only justifying something wrong. Imagine having a child and that child ends up abused by someone way older when they are just starting to go through puberty they will be scared and the person will end up getting away. Why? because it’s a sexuality and that justifies them letting them get away with mandatory therapy. Leaving our child scarred for life. It’s not right and we have to let these pedophiles know that they aren’t able to justify their actions towards CHILDREN who can’t even provide consent and are barely getting to know their own bodies.
