The world we live in is full of distractions and noise that keep us from seeing what is being plotted against us. We are pitted against one another, so that we do not come to people’s cry for help.

We are currently living in a world where money is more important than humanity. There is a lot of suffering in the world today and it has been an on going trend for hundreds to thousands of years.

Are we living in a world where we are living sympathetic fatigue? It is when we come to a certain point in our lives that, mentally, we have become exhausted by the idea of violence and tragedies. The fact that we know what the suffers of the world are, but feel like we have no power to make a change for the better of those in need we tend to look but have mentally checked out in our minds. All that emotional stress we tend to drown out those issues of the world by focusing our attention to celebrity drama or “what’s good” on Netflix. It’s called The Bread and Circus. A phrase created by Juvenal, a Roman poet, in the times of great famine and public entertainment to appease the masses. It means while we have food in our bellies and media(circus) for entertainment all is right with the world. Meanwhile, those in power give us the basic needs while they orchestrate their hidden agendas right under the masses noses. This is a phrase was coined to describe the appeasement of the masses in Ancient Roman times and this phrase is put into practice in contemporary times. We have become so desensitized to violence and suffering that it has almost become second nature to the people. So my question “What happened to humanity? Where has it gone? Did it ever exist?” We are continuing a trend that should have stopped a long time ago and start a new one that calls for a more inclusive future for generations to come.

On May 15, 2018 number 45 (President Trump) made a statement saying that “undocumented immigrants are not people they’re animals”. This should not come to a surprise to many, since America has been historically stripping away humanity since the time of colonialism. This ideology of dehumanizing the masses is just another holocaust waiting to happen. This ideology has been emulated all around the world. No one is innocent for preying on the weak and vulnerable. Those within the masses share the same ideology with those who hold power — simply lack empathy. This country, like many others, would not have made it without the labor at the hands of the people who live there and those who migrate to live as well. We are living in a time where history is repeating its old nasty habits that seem to never die out. The methods change, but the concept stays the same.

In relation to 45’s statement, Animal’s People,a novel by Indra Sinha , talks about a young survivor given the nickname “Animal” due to a poisonous gas leak from a pesticide company located in his home town. This event led to him having birth defects that forced him to walk on all fours, hence the nickname “Animal”. This novel is a series of interviews of this young man’s story and his experience of the after math from the gas leak caused by the “Kampani” (COMPANY). People are robbed of their lives and their humanity all because someone else used their power to profit from the deaths’ of vulnerable people. It only takes one disaster, one speech, just one major event to either create a genocide or peace.

Moral of the story is that we cannot live in a world where people kill people in the name of economic progress. Even though, there are people with power they are still people. Meaning they have the power to change any situation either in a positive or negative way that can affect thousands of lives. People need people to survive in this world. According to Priya Vulchi and Winona Guo we as the people need to be more racially literate. In order for the people to come together and understand one another we need to bridge the heart mind gap, so that we may see people as a whole and not just the pieces we are given to see.

It is ideologies like President Trump has that causes a divide among the people. In order for the people to have a better future we need to come together and learn from one another. Our only hope for humanity is to have humanity because without it we are the true animals.
