Millions of IKEA Dressers Recalled After Deadly Child Incidents
A series of dressers and chests produced and sold by IKEA have been recalled over several incidents resulted in deadly consequences.
The MALM dressers and chests associated with this report are not being recalled, and millions of these units may be impacted. While in the past the company urged consumers to anchor the dressers to the wall precisely because the company was aware that the dressers could tip over, many consumers claimed to be unaware of the risks. As a result, at least six children have died in incidents associated with the MALM dressers. The families of at least three of these victims are now suing the company.
Safety advocates are urging consumers to keep in mind that they should not ignore a recall such as this. Especially because deadly accidents have been associated with the recalled units.
Impacted units include children’s MALM chests and dressers that are taller than 23.5 inches and other MALM chests and dressers that are taller than 29.5 inches. All recalled products were manufactured and sold through June of 2016.
Do not wait until one of these chests tips over, pinning a loved one down and exposing him or her to injuries. Stay alert and remember that recall campaigns such as this should never be ignored.
