When You Send Your Favorite Rescues to Their Forever Homes….

Many of my friends and followers probably know that we have a family animal rescue called Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue and Medical Rehab Center. Over the last year I’ve become the Portland area intake and rehab portion of that program.

I have recently been re-homing a significant portion of the rescues taken on since last March and transitioning them from my farm to their forever homes. I try to keep fosters on site for six to twelve months to ensure they are fully healed, healthy, assessed for any long-term issues and fully ready for human interaction.

Some of the great animals rescued this year

As a true animal lover who connects with each of them, it is incredibly tough to watch them go. Last night was particularly hard as I watched one of my all-time faves head off. Fortunately, the adopters have already supplied me photos of him happily munching away in his new home!

It’s a necessary evil in the animal rescue world, you fall in love with them because they are so sweet and often times, so grateful to have been rescued that they become attached to you as well. But inevitably, you have let them go so you can make room for the next animals in need. So as sad as I am to have let some amazing animals go, I’m more positively influenced by the fact that in the last ten days, 6 sheep, 1 ram and 1 goat have found some pretty amazing forever homes! Lots of acreage, lots of animal friends and some awesome farmers who are excited to welcome them in. And even better, by the end of next week, 2 more sheep and 2 more goats will be placed in their new homes as their adopters have just been selected!

I really can’t wait to see what amazing creatures will replace these adopted sweeties here on the farm!

If you’d like to donate to help us rehabilitate the animals we have in care now, we have a generous donor who has offered to give us $5K if we can match it by the end of Summer. We are on well on our way to the first $1K but we are looking for your help — everything you donate becomes doubled through our matching donor! You can donate here! (https://fundrazr.com/d1FIGe)

In addition, if you would like to donate time and come help at the rescue — whether you’re a vet, a farrier, someone who doesn’t mind mucking stalls or exercising horses, we are grateful. If you have hay or feed to donate, equipment you want to provide, etc. it’s all welcome!

We thank you all for your generous support!
