  1. Laws governing the internet should be specific and narrowly scoped, so that online businesses continue to thrive. Sadly, that cannot be said of Indian laws governing online intermediaries. As this @DataGovNetwork paper shows, laws are vague and broad bit.ly/3m6q9Lt
  2. Such is the hype around AI that it is difficult to separate wheat from chaff. @tandem_research’s new report ‘AI on the Ground’ critically evaluates use of AI in 9 social sectors, to understand the promise and perils therein. Full report here- bit.ly/3fVri7p
  3. Big Tech firms are different from earlier Big Business because they regulate a fundamental right (speech). As @ambersinha07 argues, they don’t do it ‘neutrally’. Algos prioritise content that is ‘good for business’. This calls for a new regulatory approach https://bit.ly/3oId78K
  4. Balancing freedom of speech/ transparency against privacy is a complex challenge. In 1975, #SCOTUS upheld media privileges in reporting publicly available information from judicial records. More interesting snippets in @CCGNLUD’s global privacy law library https://bit.ly/2K2hSLB
  5. India will soon have a new cybersecurity strategy (NCSS). @CCGNLUD predicts that it will highlight ‘self-defense’ in cyberspace, include more tools against cybercrimes, clarify institutional roles and budgets, and involve the private sector. Read more here https://bit.ly/37fVKpT
  6. Digitisation, especially after #COVID19, is creating a brave new world where the old rules may not all apply. Therefore, this podcast by @VasantDhar and @DataGovNetwork is important content for those who want to hear a fresh take on these issues https://bit.ly/34btdzT
  7. In the first meeting of @DataGovNetwork and @innovcorps’s #OpenData Working Group, participants discussed lacunae in existing policy and implementation, need to bring an enforceable law, and catalysing demand through easing use of data. Read more here- lnkd.in/ePbfsER
  8. Nigeria’s #DigitalID system consists of a national identity number and an e-ID card. These overlapping systems interact in complex ways. If you like to geek out over ID systems maps, then this one by @cis_india might be the one for you https://t.co/X1lBV0g1gp
