Responsive Org is creating a fundamental shift in the way we work in the 21st Century. If you like what you read, please subscribe, and don’t forget to hit 👏 .

We are four weeks out from Responsive Conference 2018, and between our organizing team, speakers, and attendees, we could not be more excited! We have 25 speakers on stage, and thought you might enjoy this trailer about some of our amazing presenters.

Even more, we are looking forward to the biggest annual gathering of Responsive practitioners from around the world — coming up in 25 days in Queens, New York. Take a look at this video about the immersive, community-driven experiences that take place at the event.

We are trying out a lot of new formats this year, including “Small Groups” breakouts. These will entail small groups of 10–15 attendees, coming together around a pre-selected topic, and lead by an experienced facilitator. These groups provide even the most introverted attendees community — people they are guaranteed to get to know — within the larger conference.

As an additional note, hotel rooms in New York fill up fast, and this September is no exception. If you are traveling into town, we highly recommend The Paper Factory, which is just walking distance from our venue. Follow this link to register at the hotel with the Responsive discount. (This rate will expire on Friday, August 30th.)

What We’re Reading

We enjoyed the article, “Tesla is Not Normal” in Fast Company about Tesla and Elon’s sometimes erratic behavior, especially on Twitter. While we are fans of what Tesla is building, there is some questionable behavior in how the company interacts with the public and the press. Read the article, and let us know your thoughts!

Our friend at The Ready, Sam Spurlin, just published this great tactical guide on “How To Facilitate The Best Meeting Your Team Will Have This Week” on Medium. Sam thinks deeply about problems facing organizations today. We’re excited to adapt some of these practices internally, and hope you benefit from this article, as well!

Vanity Fair just published “Silicon Valley Engineers Fear They Created A Monster,” which explores some very real challenges that the tech industry is currently grappling with. It feels like everyone is talking about the Gig Economy. (Julie Clow, Head of People at Chanel, is onstage at Responsive Conference this year talking about just that.) We don’t spend enough time talking about the downsides of the Gig Economy, especially from the perspective of those actually building software.

As longtime fans of behavior change, we had to share this article in HBR about motivating employees (and everyone else in your life). “Motivating Employees Is Not About Carrots Or Sticks” reminds us of what we already know: that these two defaults are the only options.

Responsive Conference 2018 speakers, Bob Gower and Alex Jamieson, are days away from publishing this new book “Getting To Hell Yes.” This book is a free resource which teaches how to have generative conversations that will change your business (and the rest of your life).
