New year, new CEO, new game

It has been almost two years since ResQ was launched in Helsinki. Since then we’ve travelled all the way from Vancouver to Kuala Lumpur and back, learned a lot, tweaked our company from here and there, amended and changed bits and pieces. In hindsight, the past 23 months have been about building the foundation and learning the rules of the game. Now, we’re ready to put the bigger gear in and start the game — and we play to win.

In this post our newly appointed CEO Sauli Böhm will share his thoughts about the new year and the company’s direction.

Considering our mission and where ResQ is heading, it’s an honor for me to take the helm and lead this magnificent company of ours. The team has taken ResQ from an idea to one of the leading companies of the buzzing surplus food scene in Europe. I’ve been fortunate to work the past year closely with amazing individuals in my different roles at ResQ. Now, as I stepped in as the CEO, I see that the company is ready to take the necessary leap in order to differentiate itself from all the other players in the world. Someone might call that a fanciful comment but yet it’s all true ;)

While we have seen great success in Finland, we are ravenous to do more. Though there’s been always surplus food, our industry is still quite nascent and there’s much room to grow. The global market will become crowded when an increasing number of new players enter the domain due to (current) fairly low barriers to entry. The winning horse will be the one who has the courage to push the boundaries and create something that might seem impossible today. The problem we’re resolving, as in food waste, doesn’t respect tradition or optimisation of status quo — it only respects innovation. I love this game because if (read: when) we succeed, the impact on our planet will be enormous — and thus we need to (read: get to) go beyond unimaginable.

That said, we learned last year that, in order to be true to our mission and create a global success story out of ResQ, we need to put more emphasis on setting up ambitious yet clearly defined strategy and align all parts of our company around that. The work began last year and we’re definitely on the right track with these topics. The best strategy is usually not the one you’d expect and that’s what we’re after - the unimaginable.

2018, we are ready for you — let the games begin!
