Dishoom’s Pursuit for Fresh UK Restaurant Sites

Dishoom has announced its unwavering intention to explore further opportunities for establishing new dining establishments across the United Kingdom. This determination comes in the wake of a remarkable resurgence in profits observed over the past year.

The prominent Indian eatery collective inaugurated its ninth venue in the vibrant locale of Canary Wharf, London, in the year 2022. Encouraged by this success, the enterprise affirms its commitment to meticulously assess potential prospects for launching additional restaurants throughout the UK.

Dishoom experienced a notable surge in turnover, ascending by an impressive 64%, reaching £94.9 million in the preceding year. This exceptional upturn can be attributed to the inauguration of new culinary ventures and the enterprise’s ability to conduct business free from the constraints imposed by the pandemic.

Pre-tax profits also exhibited a substantial upswing, surging from £1.1 million in the fiscal year 2021 to an impressive £4.7 million during the period culminating on January 1, 2023.

Although this achievement falls slightly below the pre-pandemic benchmarks, Dishoom remains sanguine about the prospects of recapturing comparable profit levels in the ongoing year, 2023.

“In the course of 2023, there has been a consistent augmentation in patronage. The reinstatement of previous levels of demand in our existing establishments, coupled with the integration of delivery and at-home service channels, has yielded amplified revenue in comparison to the financial year 2022. The directors hold the belief that they will aptly fulfill their obligations within the upcoming 12 months,” as articulated by the directors Kavi Thakrar and Shamil Thakrar in their performance summary.

The genesis of Dishoom, drawing inspiration from the bygone Irani cafés of Bombay, traces back to its establishment by the visionary duo, Shamil and Kavi, in London’s thriving district of Covent Garden in the year 2010. Subsequently, the enterprise has admirably expanded, encompassing a constellation of six eateries within London and further regional establishments situated in Edinburgh, Manchester, and Birmingham.

In a magnanimous gesture, the collective contributed an astounding tally of over three million meals to underprivileged children in both India and the UK in the preceding year, achieved through partnerships with charitable organizations such as Akshaya Patra and Magic Breakfast.

Dishoom proudly pledges its allegiance to curbing its carbon footprint and has further solidified this commitment by appointing a head of sustainability in the year 2023.
