Projects could be missing out how to really use Twitter to get their message out

The growth of Twitter since its inception has been in large part to the change in its usage. From a simple messaging platform to a global marketing tool, its reach is astronomical with more than 200 million users. But for our purposes, it is more than just tweeting “here we are.” The limited number of characters is beneficial from a marketing perspective. It helps companies stay focused on one message instead of trying to spout out a deluge of information. Linking to your website, Medium page, or Discord server is your plan of action if you have more to say.

Quick Tips
Simply tweeting that your game is live or your contest is on is not enough. There is a method to the madness of proper marketing via Twitter. Here are a few quick tips:

  • Be conversational
  • Keep your copy short and sweet
  • Use images, GIFs, and/or videos whenever possible
  • Limit to 1–2 hashtags per Tweet
  • Test, test, test (and use analytics to see what works)
  • Your first few words should always provide value to the reader
  • Always include a proper Call To Action (CTA) driving them to engage more with your project.

Twitter is the best platform for brands to launch something new. And it doesn’t have to be as big as a new (re)brand or product. Launching a seasonal promotion, sale, or event? How about a new partnership? Start the conversation and break your news on your Twitter timeline.

Be Concise and Make Your Directions Clear
Twitter is the best platform for brands to launch something new. Broadcast it on your timeline. Break your news on Twitter. But in doing so, always ask yourself what action you want people to complete when they view your tweet. Do you want people to play a game? Join a community? Attend an event, either in person or virtually? You have to let the reader know. Don’t be afraid to simplify the directions. You could lose an audience if they have to think too hard to engage with you.

Add visuals, especially video
Don’t limit your tweets to sharing links, texts, or quotes. Sharing high-quality images or short videos increases the likelihood that people will engage with your posts. Twitter’s internal research has shown that an audience is more likely to follow you if they find high-quality, engaging, and entertaining content on your page. With a trend toward a decreasing attention span, visual content works best in streamlining the user experience while making the engagement memorable. But again, the key is short and sweet.

Incorporate timely and relevant hashtags
Hashtags allow you to expand your reach and tap into relevant conversations. Focus on keywords that are relevant to your business and stick to one or two hashtags per Tweet. Track daily trends on the “Explore” tab to identify popular topics you can tie your brand to in an authentic way. But as listed above, limit your number of hashtags to keep your message focused and concise.

The Importance of Retweeting and Replying
If you want people to engage with you, you have to engage with them. Be sure to respond promptly to messages and mentions either by tweeting back or by direct messages. Retweet positive feedback articles or anything else that might further your cause.

Ask questions and run polls
Twitter is all about conversation. Asking questions is an effective way to engage, get your audience to respond, and gather feedback. You can use this information to change your approach, develop new products, and to some extent, as a barometer of your success.

These are general examples that will help you get an idea of how to begin and the core tenets you need to keep in mind. Results.io has a wealth of experience to get you and your project started as well as manage your servers.
