Artificial Intelligence in Marketing: Does it A Curse or A Blessing for Marketers?

Artificial intelligence has proliferated every area of our lives today. From a simple Google search to the software that powers our nuclear installations, AI has managed to foray into all of these computing installations, to help reduce manual effort, thus reducing chances of human errors from happening.

In our pop culture, we have heard about Artificial Intelligence from the 50s. This ae no better depicted than in the Terminator movie franchise, where the pros and cons of artificial intelligence are brought out with amazing visual brilliance. In the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was shot in 1968, there is a prediction of machines being able to mimic the thinking of humans, with their artificial intelligence.

When it comes to marketing, we can see the influence of artificial intelligence in real life. Our shopping habits are being constantly analyzed, and patterns are being generated, upon which, suggestions are made to us, regarding our next purchases. The question we need to ask here is — if computers can predict our next moves based on pattern analysis and data acquisition, does this make the marketer of no consequence? What happens to the marketing professional? Will computers be able to sell products, with no human intervention whatsoever?

To completely understand these concepts, we must first grasp the true meaning of AI. It is mostly a broad terminology used in magazines, presentations, and lectures. AI can be defined as being, “ machine — executed cognitive activities that we thought previously were able to do so, but now need to be better and faster.

Why does AI matter in marketing? It makes things easier. You can automate the mundane task of parsing through mountains of lead data and can make sense of it all much faster, to make better marketing decisions. For instance, trapica.com uses an analytic engine powered by AI, to analyze thousands of transactions happening on the market, to build you a profile of your target audience, and helps you produce proper ad campaigns to be able to target your intended market with minimal overhead costs, and improved results. This is all thanks to the power of Artificial intelligence.

This same technology is applied in large companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, which rely on leads and properly targeted advertising, to be able to penetrate the market and to be competitive enough. Due to the exponential increase of cheap, fast and scalable networks in the world today, the use of AI by many corporations has been on the increase. It is now entirely possible for anyone in the world to build an efficient Artificial Intelligence algorithm.

In marketing, AI can never completely replace the human element, because, the need for human feedback and judgemental criticism will always remain. Because of AI, and machines in general only work by parameters, and binary numbers, they can never match the creative abilities of human beings, and so it can be construed as a blessing to marketers, as it will only supplement their efforts, not replace them.
