Sustainable, clean and plastic free, is a top priority for shoppers moving into 2023 according to a new study conducted by a Natural Grocers’ Nutrition Education team, consisting of health and wellness experts ranging from Registered Dietitians to Certified Natural Foods Chefs, collaborated with the retailer’s purchasing, marketing and analytics teams.

In 2023, consumers will be lowering their plastic footprint one bottle at a time. Solid body care products are more environmentally friendly than your typical bottled shampoos, conditioners, soaps, and lotions. These solid bars are plastic free and sometimes completely packaging free, the bars are made with less water than liquid versions, and they even last longer.

If you think you can’t adjust to a solid version of your standard product, think again! As the market for these products has grown, the quality has improved with it. Bar shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and soaps are just as effective and luxurious as your liquid standbys, and you can find one that suits your every need. Natural Grocers will be sharing these trends online and over their social media channels throughout December and in the upcoming volume of their Health Hotline — available online and in print this January.

Brand To Know: A Quality Skincare brand we would like to spotlight is, Nopalera

Nopalera is best known for its zero-waste organic products, founded by Sandra Velasquez, a Mexican Botanical Bath & Body line based in New York City that is currently sold in Nordstrom, Credo Beauty, and over 350 independent retailers nationwide. Prior to launching Nopalera, Velasquez worked as a sales & distribution manager for several CPG brands across multiple categories. In addition to running her company, she hosts a podcast and works as a mentor to emerging CPG brands and teaches online classes about sales strategy.

Velasquez is the winner of the Valde Latinx Entrepreneur Grant, the Clean Beauty Summer School Pitch Grant, a finalist for the Black Ambition Prize, and won Latino Start-Up of the year at the L’attitude Match Up Conference. She is in this year’s Cosmopolitan x Undivided New C Suite and is currently participating in the Stanford LBAN Cohort 14 and True Beauty Ventures Bridge Mentorship Program. She raised 2.7 Million in her oversubscribed seed round in preparation for partnering with a national beauty retailer.

Nopalera organic products were created to elevate and celebrate Latinx culture with products inspired by the beauty and richness of Mexico. The nopal cactus is an ancient symbol of Mexican culture and is one of the most sustainable, nourishing and resilient crops in the world.
