Meet the Rethink Education Fellows

By Michelle Dervan, Principal, Rethink Education

We recently launched a Graduate Fellowship Program with the aim of providing students from diverse backgrounds with a way to gain hands-on experience in ed-tech and impact investing. Three Graduate Fellows joined our team in November and are working with us on sourcing, diligence and advisory services for portfolio companies. Each of the Fellows is deeply passionate about education and brings a unique perspective and expertise, which in a short period of time has added great value to our team. Some highlights of their professional experiences include:

Glenn Reese is an MBA student at Cornell Tech with a background in Technology Development Finance, Data Analytics, and Education Policy Research. He spent four years working as an Analyst at GE before joining Education Pioneers as part of their Analyst Fellowship Program. He subsequently worked with UnCommon Schools on the Data Analytics and Policy Research team. He has a BS in Finance from Xavier University of Louisiana.

Kelly Ifill is an MBA candidate at Columbia Business school. She started her career as a founding math teacher at a new public high school in central Brooklyn, NY (through the NYC teaching fellow program), where she led the math department for 5 years. She has since worked at schools in Brooklyn, Brazil and Dubai. Kelly has a BA in Mathematics from CUNY Baruch College and an MA in Secondary Mathematics Education from St. John’s University.

Kevin White is an Executive MBA candidate at Columbia Business School. He has over six years experience as a management consultant advising senior management teams at Fortune 100 companies. He is a member of the Columbia Re-Entry Acceleration Program (REAP), which helps incarcerated citizens in NY State get access to education and employment opportunities. Kevin has a BS in Finance and Accounting and an MS in Financial Statement Analysis from Lehigh University and is a CPA in the State of NY.

The design of our Fellowship Program is informed by my own experience of interning with Rethink Education as a graduate student in 2014. I spent several months carrying out detailed research on the higher education technology landscape and prepared a market map and analysis. This experience served me well; I landed a great role after graduation with one of the major education publishing firms in New York and recently re-joined Rethink Education this past fall as a Principal on the investment team. My hope is that our newly-launched Fellowship Program will open up similar opportunities for talented aspiring ed-tech executives and investors.

We will be accepting applications for summer and school year 17/18 Fellowships over the coming months and will be expanding the program to include Fellows from cities outside of New York. If you are a graduate student who is mission-driven and passionate about education, technology, and impact investing, please reach out to us at
