Welcome to Rethinking Education’s second newsletter!

I’ m thinking about launching a Socially Just and Decolonial Research & Project Design Methods group membership. As a practitioner and PhD researcher, for years, I couldn’t find any courses or go-to places to guide me with key resources or practical guidance around how to embed these practices into my work.

I’m so excited to address this through creating a Socially Just and Decolonial Research & Project Design Methods community-based group membership, where in addition to weekly course modules, you will be provided with the theory, tools, and resources to embed socially- just, decolonial research and project design methods into your practice. You will have the opportunity to join a closed community of practice group to share resources, questions and network and access monthly guest speakers and support with your projects.

  1. Read: Research and Evidence

The Bukavu Series online exhibition explores the power dynamics between researchers from the Global North and the Global South. What is the role of power dynamics in the production of academic knowledge? Is true academic collaboration between researchers from the Global North and South possible amid prevailing power dynamics?

4. Listen to: Critical Emancipatory Design Thinking

This podcast with Lesley Ann Noel’s is a brilliant introduction to Critical Emancipatory Design thinking. This is so useful for anyone working in the international development or social impact space. Lesley delves into power issues and design, participatory design, and working with communities.

5. Buy : Voices from the Jungle

This fantastic book is a collection of stories written by people who lived in ‘the jungle’, a refugee camp near Calais in Northern France. This wonderful book offers alternative insights into media depictions of the people who lived in the camp in 2016/2017, and currently , pluto press have a 50% discount throughout May :)
