#BigParentingIdea — Be A Good Person So That You Can Be Proud (Don’t Do It For Me)
Don’t worry about being a good person so that you can make me proud.
It’s not about me. It’s your life.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to need the conscience of any of our ancestors to be able to evaluate the situation and do the right thing.
Were our ancestors perfect? Did they always know to do the right thing?
Should the conscience of our ancestors be also our moral compass? Can’t we develop our own?
Should our ancestors’ behavior inform our behavior simply because we carry the same name? And should we no longer care once we change that name?
And how should behave those whose families disowned them? Can they stop giving a shit, because they don’t need to care about the good name of their ancestors? Can they go on a shooting spree or sleep with their sibling’s spouse?
Just wondering. Whom will they consult what’s right or wrong?
Worry about being a good person, so that you can be proud.
Don’t do it for me. Do it for yourself.
Because when I’m gone, you’ll still have a good reason to stick to being a good human being.
