Humans are squirrelly

Sometimes, for whatever reason, it’s not appropriate to refund to the shopper’s original payment method. Sometimes, a brands’ unique returns policy only allows issuance of store credit for returns. Previously, Returnly dashboards were set to default either refund to gift card (only if gift cards are enabled properly) or refund to the shopper’s original payment method. Most brands are fine with this default method and opt for refund to original payment method, as it is assumed to provide the highest-quality shopping experience. For brands selling undergarments, which can never be restocked, it might be necessary to default refund to gift card and this is what they’ve done. In the world of returns and exchanges there are always outliers, variance, funny cases… We’re dealing with human beings. Humans are amazing creatures that often exhibit erratic behavior — it’s sort of what makes us awesome.

How to wrangle squirrels

So how do brands deal with these outliers? Previously, interesting work-arounds had to be made for shoppers who presented with outside-the-box refund issues.
