Connecting Humanity Through Play
Hi everyone, I’m Jordi Marín Valle from Barcelona, where the sun always shines. Growing up, I was quite addicted to 8-bit video games to the extent that my parents had to hide the controller pads to limit my playing time. I also loved playing football on the streets and competing in local tournaments until I went to university. My passion for pizza knows no bounds, with Neapolitan pizza marinara being my favorite.
In April 2024, I decided to quit my full-time corporate job and pause my career as a Software Development Engineer to embark on a journey as a nomadic, bohemian, creative human entrepreneur. This journey revolves around a personal passion project that has been a hobby of mine for a couple of years already — a physical card game named ‘Revelations: Topics for Humanity’. It’s an ice-breaker with a unique twist — no questions, just topics.
The Travels of a Card Game: A Human Tool for Connection
While it may seem like just a game, it’s truly a tool for facilitating non-intrusive learning about each other, leading to a journey of vulnerability, authenticity, and connection between players. Many describe it as therapeutic and bonding. Developed and refined through my stays in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan, Revelations Cards has demonstrated its appeal and success across diverse cultures. It has been particularly well-received by Europeans and North Americans I met during my travels. I tested, refined, and improved the project mainly in hostels, where I connected with Western people and engaged them while “playing a card game”.
Engineer with an Entrepreneurial Mindset
Since 2004, I have worked as a Software Development Engineer on diverse projects in various setups, from tiny startups to massive worldwide corporations. This experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of the engineering cycle, along with insights into the trends, tendencies, and improvements within the software engineering community. Since 2012, I have demonstrated determination and resilience as an entrepreneur, although many of my ventures, like Patrick del Born, Canlendy, and Seduce, ended due to a lack of time, focus, and resources.
My biggest success was ForeverJoven, which began as a project for my ex-girlfriend. I supported her when she didn’t believe in herself as much as I did. Seeing her potential, determination, and skill for fashion, I orchestrated everything from scratch with creativity, passion, and vision to make it happen. The business is still thriving after 12 years. After our relationship ended nearly two years ago, I handed over my vision and next year’s milestones to her, allowing me the headspace for new ideas and marketing strategies for Revelations Cards.
A Catalyst for Catharsis
Revelations Cards started years ago as a side project during the COVID lockdowns. Developing and redefining it has helped me understand what I am good at and what makes me feel fulfilled. I realized that I am good at listening to people, helping them, and fostering connections. I am fascinated by how some people closely guard their feelings while others open up when they feel safe and comfortable. After playing Revelations Cards a hundred times, it has proven to be a catalyst for catharsis, bringing authentic magic to the experience for those who play. The magic may happen in the first round, but it always happens if you play from your heart and for a couple of rounds.
I am passionate about contributing to mental health and relationships, aiming to bring awareness to purpose, happiness, acceptance, authenticity, and inner peace 😌, from individuals to groups or work teams. While individualism can lead to success with effort and luck, I realized that collectivism is the key to balancing both personal and professional success. Together, we are stronger. There is nothing more rewarding than helping others and feeling that you have changed their lives for the better.
A Nomadic Life That Gives Me a Passionate Purpose
Now, in 2024, I’ve embraced life as a nomadic, bohemian, and creative entrepreneur. My current focus is on ‘Revelations: Topics for Humanity’, and I am incredibly passionate about it. Some might see this as following my heart and purpose. Being in Japan, I gained a deeper understanding of the word ‘ikigai’ which resonates deeply with my journey with Revelations Cards. Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means “a reason for being” or “a reason to wake up in the morning.” It represents the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for, leading to a fulfilling and purposeful life. Sounds beautiful, right?
I tick all the boxes except the last one — as with all projects, the beginning comes with losses. I’m not prioritizing income, which has led to a project that’s draining my savings. Despite this, I believe that with perseverance, it will achieve great success and help connect many people ✨. Crowdfunding is an option to explore, though I need to enhance my marketing skills to make it work. It’s the most practical way to scale quickly. With determination, persistence, and resilience on my side, I am committed to seeing this journey through to its full potential.
A Mission of Connection
So this is me, a passionate human being determined to contribute to a more human and self-aware world. Revelations Cards has proven its value, resonating with people across cultures and providing a meaningful way to connect. The time for testing is over; the focus now is on marketing, promotion, and bringing this tool to the world. I am committed to seeing this journey through, knowing that even a small impact on human connection and understanding makes every effort worthwhile. The journey may be challenging, but the potential to create a more connected and empathetic world is a reward in itself.
