Darling dearest,
Please hear this:
I never loved you
After all you put me through

And darling dearest
Ponder this:
Had you not stolen
My first kiss

And lifted from them
My last shred of innocence,
Would upon my brow
Exist no mark of nervousness?

And on your face
The lasting smile of
Sunlit summers,
Handheld every mile

Still be there?
Yet I am aware
The world cannot come down
By just one Atlas, sweaty browed

But when I alone hold the world
I cannot shoulder every blame
Til unto oblivion hurled
When even the stars forget your name.

I cannot write you forever.
By skin and teeth and bloody nail
You cling to my better
Sense I should have left you

When you left me.
For in the leaves
And through the trees
I still see you.

Darling dearest,
Please hear this
I cannot forget you
After all you put me through
