Click-click-click
The jingle and jangle
The tab left to dangle
Making the two sides stick
That’s what a zipper is for.

Za-za-zoom
The metal as it glides
The fabric no longer hides
What’s beneath the costume

Ca-chunk-Ca-chunk
The heavy metal jaws
Close tightly for a happy cause:
A vacation’s luggage, all bundled in a trunk
That’s what a zipper is for.

Klink-klink-klink
The teeth jostle and grate
To hold back the prodigious weight
Of corpulent flesh that could not shrink
That’s what a zipper is for.

Fwip-fwip-fwip
The mouth, now latched strong
Forced not to say what’s “wrong”
No controversy to come from the lip
That’s what a zipper is for.
