Carlisle and I have been thinking about this space for years. Each of us aspired to change our society’s approach to sexual assault, but we were unsure of where or how to start. After discovering this shared passion, we decided to create something together.

Revenance launched in October 2018. The events are structured in two parts: a quiet exercise interacting with questions posted around a room, followed by a group discussion.

To start the discussion, we asked with the question, what is something you noticed during the exercise. The conversation started with observed trends from the collective answers, and how people felt responding to the questions. After a few minutes, the conversations took paths of their own, frequently going over the allotted amount of time. We immediately realized the power of these conversations .

Carlisle and I started thinking about different channels we could explore, thinking of different applications of healing and therapeutic activities. We’re excited to take a step forward on one of these applications today, as we start Revenance’s written chapter.

We’ll use this space to share what we’re thinking about related to sexual assault, and societies’ approach to it. We’ll be intentional in creating a balance of lighter and heavier topics, but please note that some pieces may be difficult and/or triggering. We encourage reflection and self-care when reading about these topics.
