A culture of fear

Zouhair Mtazi is an actor in the play “Phobiarama”, the so-called modern ghosthouse. But to Zouhair it is more than just playing a role. Strolling through the streets of Aarhus or scaring people in “Phobiarama”, either way Zouhair and his fellow actors represent an important aspect of the modern fear-culture.

Zouhair and his friend Nabil are both actors in the so called modern-ghosthouse “Phobiarama” which plays during Aarhus festival week. “Phobiarama” challenges our modern fear culture in a thought provoking and scream causing experience. “Phobiarama” has toured around all over Europe. Zohair has worked at the play for last two years.
Zouhair Mtazi grew up in Holland with Moroccan parents. Being a part of “Phobiarama” is more than just an act to him. The play centers about very important issues. “There shouldn’t be an “us” and a “them”. Everyone is the same, but in europe there is a big fear of the “different”. That is something we need to change.”
With long working hours and a lot of traveling Zouhair spends a lot of his spare time with the other actors that are also “on the road”. Even though they carry different stories they can all connect on being a part of the political theatre play “Phobiarama” and fighting against the prejudices on being “different”.
