We took a casual afternoon stroll through Aarhus at the festival week — this is what we experienced

It is said that people in Aarhus are open-minden and easy to approach, so we put it to the test.

We took our camera and microphone and went to the most busy pedestrian area alongside the small river running through central Aarhus. It is a place of pure pleasure and indulgence. A lot of packed hip cafes adorn the scene here. There are people are hanging out and enjoying their time at the tables or by the river side enjoying the sun and others busy with their everyday lives walking over the numerous bridges.

The first person we met was Caroline. She has been working at Summerbird Icecream, a wagon with organic homemade passion. Her english was bad, but we seemed to connect anyways through the love of italian gelato.

From there we got a tip that we should go to Mølleparken, which is the spot every student who wants to drink or smoke their brains to smithereens or just hang out and be worry free when the danish weather allows. There we met a group of new students who were having a good time with a non-sensical game called beer bowling. The rules are stupid but far from simple. The most important are as follows.

  1. Two teams of two persons sit on chairs opposite each other with around 10 meters between them. Then inbetween each group there is a full beer can which they have to bowl a ball to hit. Easy. If you hit the opponents can, they have to chug the beer.
  2. For every action you should ALWAYS seek permission from the judge, somebody with godlike powers on the side of the field. Do you forget to do it, you have to drink.
  3. If somebody shouts “germans!”, you have to quickly hide behind your chair. The last team has to drink.

Ok, so basically you just drink more and more until you your eyesight and motor functions begin to fail. Genius.

After my can was hit several times, and neither me or my partners had enough skill to score, we decided to sneak away and go to Cluster Square because one of the students was digging it.

There was organised a flea market for men. A lot of branded hipster apparel, shoes and hats arranged on tables. The point here was sustainability and bromance. We met Mads who organized this event and Jacob who just got himself a nice long-sleeve.

After the beers from the bowling, my stomach was calling an S.O.S. I needed food and lucky enough, there was Rasmus in a stall selling vegan portobello burgers with tasty smoked bacon. He did not spare me for his homemade curry sauce which I couldn’t avoid getting smeared all over my pretty face.
