This is a product that I have personally used. I was personally introduced to it by my art professor while taking her painting class, and I’ve used it since for my own personal projects.

Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic Paint can be purchased at Michaels craft store in the painting section. They come in a variety of pigments, 14 total, and can be purchased in either 60 mL tubes, or 200 mL.

Customer Review

This particular brand of acrylic paint has been described as highly recommended, good quality paint. Customers have said this brand has amazing pigment quality, and the thickness and flow of the paint is consistent and rich. In comparison to some cheaper brands of acrylic paints, which are lower quality and sometimes brush off thin and force you to paint multiple layers for a degree of thickness, Winsor & Newton Galeria never saw that as a problem. The paints were easy to use and blended well, perfect for a painter. Even the tubes were praised, made of a material that didn’t crack or split.

My Review

From personal experience, this is my go-to brand of acrylic paint. I was first introduced to it in my college painting course and no other paints compare. These are good quality paints that are brilliance in color, easy to control, mix cleanly and beautifully, and once on the canvas they retain their bright colors for years. The paint applies smoothly and with a satisfying thickness.

When first purchasing this at Michaels on my own time, I noticed they had three rankings of various paint sets for various skill levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Professional, with Artist Loft as beginner, Winsor & Newton Galeria as intermediate, and Winsor & Newton Professional acrylic as, well, professional. I’d have to agree with the rankings Michaels gives. Artist Loft acrylics are the kinds you would buy a younger kid who is just learning: cheap and very easy to use, but not the highest of quality. Galeria is a higher quality, made for more skilled artists, but also the kind to buy if you were more serious about learning in a college class setting.

Pros and Cons

This paint is easy to use, applies smoothly and richly. It’s long lasting and ideal for skilled painters.

The only cons are the price. Because it is a higher quality paint, individual bottles are more expensive. Any artist can tell you that supplies are expensive. A single 60 mL tube is $4.99, and a 200 mL tube is $9.99, which is a fine price individually but it adds up when you have to buy multiple colors. A complete set of nine 60 mL tubes costs $79.99.

Recommendations

I highly recommend using this paint if you are serious about painting. It is very high quality, but can also be expensive depending on your budget. Just for starting out or if your budget is a concern, I’d recommend purchasing three 60 mL tubes: Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Cerulean Blue Hue, and Permanent Magenta. Contrary to what your elementary art classes have taught you, red, blue, and yellow are not the ideal mixing colors for paints and inks. Buying my recommended three will give you brighter, more ideal colors. I also suggest buying a 200 mL tube of Titanium White for changing hues.
