New writers interested in reviewing for Reviewday Tuesday should see the most recent Submission Guidelines to apply.

Dear Reviewers,

The image policy of a publication is one of its most important guidelines, as breaches of copyright regulations can cause serious legal or financial consequences that affect both writers and editors. This guide is to protect you from such scenarios, since every Medium article needs at least one image.

Why is following the image policy important?

Writers have lost their accounts on Medium due to using copyrighted images without permission, but suspension or even banning from an online platform is the least of your worries when it comes to copyright.

As Susie Kearley has noted in several articles, people have been sued for using photos in their online articles for large sums of money. Misusing images — especially in paywalled articles — can get the writer hit with serious fines and legal fees if the legal owner chooses to pursue damages.
