Who is Sarah Silverman?

While you might not recognize her name, there is a good chance that you will recognize Sarah Silverman. She has had several comedy specials as well as being a writer on Saturday Night Live. Many will know her as the former girlfriend of Jimmy Kimmel, but she has also had two shows on television, The Sarah Silverman Program and I Love You, America.

Silverman is best known for her sarcastic sense of humor. I find her to be an inspiration for sarcasm. Even when I know she is starting a joke with a bit of a falsehood, it is hard to not believe her. I will give an example of this later, when we talk about her memoir and her part in the documentary, The Aristocrats.

An unusual Foreword

The foreword of a memoir is typically the place where the author will find someone that can share some insights and interesting stories about the author. It can set the tone for the entire book and help a shopper decide if they want to own the book. Silverman chose to pick the person that knows her best to write the foreword— herself.

Part of the foreword is spent sharing Silverman’s e-mails with her publisher about that choice. My take is that this part of the book is designed to let…
