The Grinder’s April Fools’ Logos
What a fun, harmless jest!
April Fools’ Day is upon us. Many websites join in the frivolity via digital pranks, with different levels of success. Today, I’m going to be reviewing a prank from The Grinder (not Grindr), a writing resource and submission database.
What makes a good April Fool’s Prank?
In my opinion, the best pranks, regardless of the day, have the following characteristics:
- Simple
- Harmless
- Easily identifiable
- Funny
Too complicated and you risk baffling your audience. Obviously, jokes that cost anyone money or cause other harm — emotional, financial, physical — are not funny, especially if they genuinely would change someone’s life (pregnancy or death announcement, breaking up, winning the lottery). Jokes that take too long to come to light lose their punch.
Some companies advertise a fake product, like CadburyUK announcing “Creme Egg On The Goo” on Instagram, a Gogurt-style tube of Cadbury Creme Egg filling (honestly, I’d try it). Others announce silly collaborations (KFC x Nerds) or take a gamble on a fake contest or prank calls (veering out of harmless territory, if people…
