- Robocop 35th Anniversary 4k Cinema Release A Writing Masterclass
This genius script still stands up today
Everything is writing when you are a writer, so here is my Robocop review 35 years later. Showing at my local Vue cinema was a remastered Robocop, so it would be rude not to see it and even more rude not to write about it. The film is an absolute masterpiece, especially in writing. The film has been upscaled to 4k, the film grain is gone, so it looks superb. I must have watched this like twenty times already! Robocop remains one of my favourite films of all time.
There are fuck bombs everywhere in this film and disrespect for women that wouldn’t cut it today. Robocop is like a metal Jesus metaphor, rising again like Lazarus, or the Lord mighty. Robocop is peak 80s and captures the decade perfectly despite being set in a future Detroit city.
It looks glorious in 4k. The majority of the old film grain is gone, apart from the satirical news bits. Here is a list of what makes the writing so good :
Well rounded great characters
Almost every character in this film is superb. Starting with the main villain Clarence Boddicker, to the shady OCP no2 Dick Jones. Alex Murphy is a cop in the wrong place, at the wrong time, a down on his luck family guy cop.
