Top Gun: Maverick It seems Captain Pete “Maverick“ Mitchell is still every bit the maverick he was in the first Top Gun movie. He may not be quite as maverick as the likes of me, but he certainly doesn’t mind rubbing up against his superiors in the US Navy the wrong way and taking some very big risks concerning his fighter pilot behaviour.

This is why Pete is still a captain and Val Kilmer’s “Ice” is now an Admiral. An Admiral who continues to look after his old buddy despite the likes of John Hamm and Ed Harris wanting to boot his insubordinate arse-off team after years of Maverickerous shenanigans and certainly his latest stunt.

John is always good value in movies and Ed is not just a great actor but has the sort of head that looks like it could take a direct hit from a ballistic missile. Of course our man Pete, whilst being a more “Don’t think, do” type of person, still very much cares for the wing people he works with and certainly his group of fighter pilot students that he now has to school for a highly dangerous mission, despite not wanting to be a teacher back at Miramar. But if you’re going to piss off your superiors, you are always going to find yourself doing jobs you don’t particularly want to do.
