The End of Revisify
Revisify’s History
Revisify started out as a small project to help me prepare for my GCSEs. I began working on it in February of 2015 to help me organise and learn all the information I needed to know.
After finding it very helpful, I decided to make it available to other students who, like me, struggle to study. I spent that entire summer developing it and released it to everyone in September of 2015.
I continued to build more value into Revisify over the past 2 years in the time I had outside of my A Levels. Revisify reached a total of 3100 users which is incredible considering I’m very poor at marketing.
The Past 2 Months
In July, I realised that the current version of Revisify wasn’t good enough so I set out to rebuild Revisify from scratch.
The new evolution of Revisify had some amazing features and looked brilliant. The problem was it suffered the same fatal flaw that the current version of Revisify suffers from — creating topics is too difficult and most people are not willing to create them, even if it would make studying later on so much easier.
Ending Revisify
I decided several weeks ago that the time for Revisify has come to an end. This was not an easy decision considering all the work that went into it but it was the right decision.
Revisify was an attempt to take some of the pain out of memorization but it didn’t solve the root of the problem. Even if Revisify became a large success, would it be right to be profiting from a problem that I want to see a change in?
Issues Within Education
The real problem with the current education system lies in its heavy belief that memorising facts is a suitable way to test students. What matters the most is practising and applying what you have learnt.
The internet and improvements in technology have made information so accessible that exams have become almost outdated. If education evolved at the rate that other industries have, I’m sure that exams as we know it would no longer exist.
I’m excited to see what innovations we’ll see in the education space in the future. Companies such as edX and MissionU show a glimpse of what we can expect.
Moving Forward
Revisify will continue to run until October 1st so that everyone has plenty of time to export their data. New users are no longer able to create accounts in the meantime.
If you still want access to your topics send us an email to support@revisify.com and we’ll send you a copy of your topics you can import into Quizlet. If you do not want to export any of your data, you will no longer be able to access it. This includes your account, your subjects, your followers and your results.
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and your support over the past 2 years, it’s been a lot of fun.
Onto the next project,
Pav 😄
