A Tourist In My Own City

I am wearing the tourist hat again, this time, to actively explore the city where I have lived in for the past five and a half years.

Like many others, I have always focused my energy on travelling elsewhere. Why explore London when I live here? I often find myself taking this beautiful city for granted. I can check it out later…

I’m originally from Portugal and I had the exact same attitude there. I even have non-Portuguese friends who know my home country better than me! Does it make any sense to you? It doesn’t to me… Why go up north and see the stunning landscapes when I can do it later?

There’s a special appeal about going abroad. Commuting, meeting new places and faces. New cultures… and so on. Travelling is just amazing. But I feel it’s more than time to appreciate what is under my nose too.

“The grass is always greener on the other side.”

It’s time to let go of that terrible habit of taking home for granted and wander. I have pledged to myself that I will revisit a place or explore something new in London at least once per month. It’s quite a generous pledge but I rather increase it later on to avoid disappointments.

Have you had similar problems? Do you ever become a tourist in your town/city?

Revisiting London Originally a blog idea that never saw the light of day, Revisiting London is all about exploring the city where myself and my good friend, London-born Emma-Marie Bruton, live in. We’ll be sharing our experiences of the beautiful city of London, from restaurants and museums to pop-up events. Anything and everything.
