Artists Showcase: PrintMaker Ling Wan Joins Revival as a Verified Venus Artist
Printmaking is the process of creating artworks by printing, normally on paper, but also on fabric, wood, metal, and other surfaces.
From undergraduate to postgraduate, 24-years-old Ling Wan studied in the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts for six years. Ling Wan likes to print on copper plates. The process is very complicated and full of contingencies. This gives Wan the advantage of visualizing his creative ideas and expressing his feelings about the world in his creations.
“Print is a type of art that focuses on the elevation of thinking. It requires a printmaker to have a unique way of thinking and a distinctive perspective on the world.” Wan said, “In my consciousness, all I want to do is to express my emotions to the viewers. Let them freely wander in my creations, expand their imagination, and interact with the emotions I put into my works. I think this is why art has infinite charm. The viewers can freely capture images from my prints, and they have the right to interpret my works any way they like based on their minds and visions. I don’t want to define my works.”
After a long time of learning and practicing, Wan has possessed the complex craftsmanship for printmaking, and his works become increasingly abstract and emotionally impactful to general viewers.
“I think that a great artwork must have a “reason” or “Tao”, so the artist must show not only his or her independent style but also the “reason” behind the creation.”
In 2019, Ling Wan’s graduation work “Uninhibited” was kept in the school’s collection. In 2020, he continued to research and practice printmaking at the Graduate School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and participated in the 2020 Wild Youth Art Festival.
