NFTs Showcase: Peking Opera Facial Makeup Series, by Jae Felipe
Well-known Spanish designer Jae Felipe created a series of Peking Opera characters exclusively for the Revival NFT platform. All works are composed of Peking Opera facial makeup; it creates new meaning through the joint performance of various character facial makeup with Jae’s innovative master style.
Jae Felipe has lived in China for many years; he has a unique and in-depth understanding of Chinese culture, especially Peking opera and porcelain. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, physical communication is unavailable during this particular period. Hence, he began to create NFTs to convey the fusion between Western culture and Eastern culture.
“Picasso”

The work “4,065 Chinese actors with masks, one foreigner actor without the mask, and Pablo Picasso thoughtful” comprises 4065 masks. Jae’s image is among them, in Picasso’s eye: it is taken from a still from his first feature film in China. “It is my way of “signing” the work; A painter signs with his signature, and as an actor, I sign with my “acting,” Jae said.

“Dalí”
Salvador Dalí means imagination, the power of dreams, a recurring theme in the artistic trends of surrealism: the unexpected, the surprising, even the absurd and crazy of existence. It implicates Jae’s life in China: A stranger lost in such a different culture trying to make sense of life and get out of your mental comfort every day.
A fragment of Jae’s film role as Colonel Mike shows in Dalí’s eye. This work also has another unique meaning: a “laowai(foreigner)” surrounded by millions of Chinese, so close to each other, and at the same time, so far away, it’s the feeling that produced the artistic practice: fixing the gap.
