Job Threat — Automation or Machine Learning?

what is the biggest threat to the IT labor of today…. is it the automation. I don't think so. We are doing automation for ages, it was there in DOS programming, in Unix and now we are automating full stack. Full stack is possible is because those servers have become code ie VM and containers. We have been identifying pattern and patterns are getting codify. it's just a smarter way of doing work and gain efficiency and agility.

Like in the picture below from Tesla, the conveyor belt in its current form. Highly automated and efficient. The evolution of the conveyor belt has covered a long journey. The conveyor belt earlier would be a treadmill with car body that keeps moving with steady state. Automotive engineers on either side of it will fit gears to build the car. The supervising manager will keep note of the quality of work but also look out for patterns the can be put in a machine (codify). As patterns are identified and coded, then code run machine what we call robots. Now the conveyor belts start moving faster, thus increasing the output (#cars).

Tesla Model 3 on a conveyor belt. ……………………………………………….Image from Inverse ie googled

In the process of autmation, human will have a permanent role to play ie to observe the pattern and produce automation.

Imagine a machine learn from data to identify patterns and have algorithms to codify the patterns.
