You want to blog but don’t know what kind of blog you want to create? You are not alone. Many people feel that way. The easiest solution is to find out 5 types of blogs that exist in cyberspace today.

1. Personal Blog

The personal blog is a blog that is generally made just to fill spare time or share things from everyday life. This type of blog is basically a public online record so that the topic can be anything. In addition, personal blogs are not intended to make money. Even so, blog owners of this type will still enjoy blogging.

2. Authority blogs

An authority blog is a blog created by serious bloggers. The purpose of the blog is to become an expert on the topics discussed.

In terms of getting visitors, authority blogs do not focus on visitors from search engines, but also attract visitors from social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest). Therefore, even if the search engine does not exist, the authorization blogs still get traffic from social media.

Regarding content, authority blogs generally don’t prioritize keywords. Not surprisingly, authority blogs publish hundreds to thousands of quality articles because the topics they discuss are not narrow (for example health, home, personal development, technology, etc.).

Some examples of authority blogs are:

Problogger (authority blog about the world of blogging)

TechCrunch (authority blog about the world of technology)

3. Niche Blogs

In contrast to authority blogs, niche blogs focus on a particular keyword that is attempted to enter the page one search engine. Making this type of blog has a pattern: keyword research, content creation, and search engine optimization.

In terms of visitors, niche blogs rely on visitors from search engines (mainly Google) so that usually niche blog owners are busy looking for backlinks from various sources so that their blogs go to page 1 of Google for the keywords they are targeting.

Because it only relies on visitors from Google, the biggest weakness of niche blogs is losing visitors in an instant if Google updates its search algorithm. You may have read the complaints of niche blog owners in internet marketing forums because their blogs were thrown from page 1 of Google due to Google Panda, Google Penguin, or Google’s manual penalty.

Now there are a lot of coachman debates about which is better in making money between authority blogs and niche blogs. The authority blog fans claim that authority blogs are the best at making money. Likewise with the claims of “lovers” niche blogs. However, in my view, both are good at making money as long as the content and backlinks are of high quality.

4. Company Blog

In recent years many companies have added a blog to their website. Companies use their blogs to inform important announcements, introduce new products and or services, and communicate with customers. Therefore, this type of blog is generally not monetized with third-party advertisements.

Two examples that enter this type of blog are The Infolinks Blog and The Payoneer Blog.

5. Blog spam

Spam blogs are blogs that are made without regard to quality. Blogs of this type are generally in the form of automatically generated content (AGC) blogs that can be easily created in massive numbers. The owner just needs to use software (usually also certain code or plugins) to get content from someone else’s blog or website and their blog will easily fill the content.

Although easy to create, spam blogs often get complaints from blog owners whose content was taken because of copyright infringement. Not only that, this type of blog is an easy target for Google in cleaning its search results from content that is not quality.

By knowing the five types of blogs above, you get an idea of what kind of blog niches you want to create. In personal terms, I just published a company’s blog (Ribrick Tech’s blog) which focuses on business and technology content.

How about you? What types of blog do you want to build?
