Stop Waiting for Someone to Tell You That You’re Awesome
You are not special
One of the most destructive messages that I think people in my generation grew up with is — you are special.
Parents are especially guilty of this.
They think it is building the child up to have self-esteem. But there is a psychological harm right there that isn’t so visible.
When people believe they are special, they somehow expect things to fall on their laps. It doesn’t make them lazy or anything like that. But it makes them entitled.
“I should get it because I am special”
“These are the gazillion reasons I deserve X because I’m so special”
And no one is.
Well, you may be special to your parents and grandparents. But to the rest of the world, you are not.
And that is a lesson you need to learn as early as possible…
You are NOT special to anybody. Everybody is special to themselves
The reason people would be depressed when rejected is mainly because they believe they are special. While you are special to you, you must be aware that you are not special to everybody else.
