Hey everybody this is Christopher Small. This is episode twenty five of the Rich Life Lawyer Show. I’m excited to be here with you today and talk to you about why you should not use a website when you’re doing your estate planning. Why you should use an attorney or you shouldn’t go and use a legal or rocket forms or whatever else is out there. Why you should use an attorney for your estate planning needs and yes, I’m a little biased because I’m an estate planning attorney but you got to remember that I probably not going to be your estate planning attorney. I would love to be but I may not. You could be watching this anywhere around the world. I still think you need to be given an attorney. We’re talking about why right now. The first reason, the primary reason is that, well estate planning forms, right. These websites, they don’t have an opportunity to know what your goals are. What your needs are. What your wants are. And then help you attain those goals.
For example some people want to make sure that they don’t pay any taxes. Some people want to make sure that their second cousin gets the family ring. Some people want to make sure that their son or daughter who’s had some difficulties with drugs and with life don’t spend all their money, just waste all their money when they pass away. Other people are concerned or want to create generational wealth. They want their wealth to pass down not just to their kids or to their grand kids and to their great grand kids and the forms that you have out there on the Internet just aren’t going to allow you to do that kind of stuff. The second reason why having an estate planning attorney is really really critically important is that, you don’t really know if your stuff is going to work until it’s too late. So you could put something together using the internet form, you die and then it doesn’t work. And so everything that you want, everything that you want for your whole life. The legacy that you’ve been trying to create, the way that you’ve been trying to raise your family, the wealth that you’ve been building, it could all be gone. It could go to someone that you don’t want to go to. It can go to someone in the wrong way.
There are so many things that can go wrong. You don’t know if it’s going to go wrong until you die. What an estate planning attorney can do is help make sure that that is done correctly. Those are the two main reasons, right. I mean when it comes to those kinds of things you do not want to mess around the stuff because it’s a big deal. So I want to get out and talk about that for a minute. Try to think about ways to add you value other than just talking about the latest trust that you can use. So, that’s it for today.
