This year, Richardson ISD once again will benefit from the generosity of the entire DFW community and beyond through Kroger’s Backpack Boosters initiative.

During the final two weeks of July, Kroger grocery stores in North Texas and Louisiana will accept donated school supplies.

From July 17 to July 30, Kroger customers can purchase a prepackaged supply kit for $7.99 or make a monetary donation at check-out to fund additional kits of pencils, markers, notebook paper and other classroom essentials.

The supermarket chain then gathers all the donations and coordinates with local school districts to get as many supplies as possible to the campuses that need them most.

“Regardless of a student’s socioeconomic environment, no child should have to go without the tools needed to succeed in the classroom,” according to the supermarket chain with more than 200 stores in Texas. “The Backpack Boosters school supply drive will help fill the gap and prepare nearly 125,000 students for the year ahead.”

Kroger raised nearly $643,000 in 2018 and provided school supplies to more than 90,000 students, including many in RISD. This year’s goal is to raise more than $1 million and help 125,000 students.
