RISD School Times — November 7, 2018

RISD’s proposed tax ratification measure was approved by voters on November 6. The measure will provide additional compensation for teachers and staff while adding teaching positions, security staff, and special education support.

“We are thrilled with this election outcome and that our Richardson ISD community has, once again, demonstrated its commitment to our students, teachers and schools,” said RISD Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Stone. “We are anxious to get to work implementing the measures we promised to the community.

On behalf of our students, teachers, staff and the Board of Trustees, I want to say thank you to all.”

Board Meeting Summary — Nov. 5 Regular Meeting
The RISD board of Trustees met the evening of November 5 for a regular meeting. Some highlights included:

Audit Report & CAFR
Trustees heard an independent audit report of RISD financial statements from the firm of Whitley Penn. The firm tested RISD’s financial details and analytical procedures, as well as the district’s controls and planning while also assessing risk before issuing an “unmodified opinion” that indicates the bookkeeping is “fairly stated in all material respects.”

Trustees then voted to accept RISD’s 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), which is typically considered annually at the November regular meeting.

Human Resources Report
Trustees heard a presentation from RISD’s Human Resources department, which shared information about efforts the district is engaged in to recruit, retain and reward quality personnel as tasked under RISD’s strategic plan.

The report touched on the topics of employee recruiting and hiring, teacher retention, teacher turnover, staffing efforts under the ACE program, substitute teachers, and competitive compensation for staff positions as outlined in the 2017–18 salary study.
