RISD’s Craig Sandy Named Region 10 Teacher of the Year

Richardson ISD’s Craig Sandy has been named the Texas Education Agency Region 10 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Sandy, a Physical Education teacher at Richardson Heights Elementary, was eligible for the honor after being named 2017 RISD Elementary Teacher of the Year.

“This is such an honor,” Sandy said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to represent RISD through this award. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with kids every day. And I am grateful to share health and fitness with them. It is something near and dear to me, and a lot of fun to keep kids active and health conscious.”

Jessica Orozco, RISD’s 2017 Secondary Teacher of the Year, was also recognized as a finalist at the Region 10 event in Garland.

Sandy was selected from district-level winners at 147 other school districts, charter and private schools within the Region 10 ESC, spanning eight counties in North Texas. He is among 20 Regional Elementary Teachers of the Year from the education service center regions across Texas. Three state finalists will be chosen from among the regional winners to then determine the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to Craig and Jessica as two more examples of the outstanding teachers found across RISD.
