RISD’s White Rock Elementary School Recognized Nationally as a School of Excellence
National PTA has recognized RISD’s White Rock Elementary School and the White Rock ES PTA as a 2018–2020 School of Excellence.
The National PTA’s School of Excellence program supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools. The School of Excellence program provides guidance to assist in engaging families in school decision-making, and help the campus build inclusive policies related to education, health, safety and the arts.
WRE is committed to building an inclusive and welcoming school community where all families contribute to enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. The PTA planned and hosted over twenty free all-school and/or community events during the past school year and volunteered a total of 16,000 hours in 2017, as well as received countless honors and recognitions from the Texas PTA.
White Rock ES PTA is the only RISD PTA recognized as a 2018–2020 School of Excellence and one of only 278 PTAs and schools nationwide.
“Research shows that when families and schools work together, students do better in school and schools improve,” said Jim Accomando, president of National PTA. “White Rock ES and the White Rock ES PTA have worked hard to strengthen their family-school partnership and create an environment where all families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success. We are pleased to recognize them as a National PTA School of Excellence.”
The White Rock ES PTA made a commitment for the 2017–18 school year to create a learning environment, a community, and a campus where all kids had all access to success. “We made it our goal and mission to break down financial barriers and perceived audiences and instead deliver events and tangible items that are respectful, inclusive and welcoming to all families,” said Whitney Ragsdale, White Rock ES PTA President.
“We are working hard to become a school that is truly ONE FOR ALL,” believes Lee Walker, White Rock ES Principal. “Through our journey to excellence, I learned a lot about our PTA and its volunteers, White Rock ES staff, and especially the servant heart of our school families. We believe that improving education cannot be done without being respectful, inclusive and welcoming to all families.”
