EA & Respawn Entertainment’s hit Battle Royal FPS-style game “Apex Legends” just released its 18th season. Here is everything you need to know, plus my thoughts on the new season so far.

It's official, Apex Legends 18th season-“Resurrection”-is here and a lot has changed!

The biggest change perhaps, lies in Revenant's new features or “Resurrection”.

A Resurrection.

Revenant-previously an “Assault” Legend-now belongs to the “Skirmisher” class.

Revenant’s reworked abilities include:

>Assasin’s instinct (Passive)- Highlight nearby visible enemies who are low on health. You crouch walk faster and have improved wall climbing.

>Shadow Pounce (Tactical)- Unleash a powerful pounce forwards. Hold to charge for farther distances.

>Forged Shadows(Ultimate)-Forge a shroud of hardened shadows around you that blocks direct damage and regenerates after breaking. Your shadows and tactical are refreshed on knockdowns.

Limited-time Events and Cosmetics.

The “Death Dynasty” event allows for the purchase of 24 character/weapon items to receive Revenants recolored Heirloom skin “Death Grip”, along with a mythic banner frame(Soul sacrifice), and emote(Fight your demons). Death Dynasty event includes a free element as well. Players have doubled XP and can earn points that go towards lower-level skins, battle pass stars, and crafting materials by playing matches.

This season’s Battle Pass was subject to slight changes as well. The typical weapon skin placed at level 100 has been moved down to level 25, and the legendary character usually associated with level 25 has been moved down to level 24. This means that battle pass buyers will receive a legendary Mad Maggie Skin( Outlawed tech) upon reaching level 24, and a legendary Eva-8 Skin(Heart of the Divine) at level 25. Players will now receive 200 Apex coins at level 100, and Legendary Eva-8 skin “Heart Brimstone” along with 100 Apex coins at level 110.

Notable Patch Notes

World's Edge has been vaulted, leaving Broken Moon, Kings Canyon, and Olympus as the playable maps this season.

The surface area of ring 1 has increased by %20, the only ring to receive any changes in size.

The R-99 and Rampage are now floor loot. The Prowler has again been made a care-package exclusive weapon, this time with the optional “Selctfire receiver” hop-up attached for the option of fully automatic fire.

The Legendary hop-up ‘Boosted loader’ is now floor loot and applicable to the Hemlok and Wingman as usual. Disruptor Rounds are now back and can be attached to the Alternator, RE-45, and -for the first time ever- the Peacekeeper shotgun.

Perhaps most important, is the changes to this season's ranked system. Contrary to the plans shared in Respawn's July ranked blog, Elimination bonuses have not returned. Instead, placement scores have been reduced for top 10 placement, and the elimination penalty for placing outside of the top 10 has been increased. This is following a controversial decision in season 17 to strictly incentivize top-half placement and completely forego the concept of elimination bonuses.

First Impressions

In Layman's terms, so far so good.

The battle pass skins are beautiful and have given me something to look forward to playing for. As a slightly above-average player who falls in the middle of the road of the player base, I would find it sometimes difficult(or not worth my time) to muster the will to complete the battle pass and receive the level 110 skin. So putting two legendary skins together and within the lower levels of the Battle Pass is a win in my book.

It would already appear that Revenant's new abilities have shaken up the meta, not sure yet if for better or worse.

Disruptor rounds have made the Peacekeeper (an already broken weapon) absolutely ridiculous. I personally haven't had too much trouble in finding disruptor rounds. On the subject of disruptor rounds, it joys me to see one of my favorite weapons in the game- the Alternator- finally getting some attention. The alternator- especially when paired with disruptors- is now a serious contender with a devastating damage output.

As someone who personally couldn't stomach the grueling process of last season's ranked split, this season seems to be a step in the right direction so far. However, I remain a strong advocate for actual elimination bonuses.
