Warner Bros. Japan and Wit studios recently broke the internet with the announcement of an upcoming Suicide Squad Anime adaptation.

What is Isekai?

Isekai is a sub-genre of Anime in which an animated character is transported into an unfamiliar world to survive.

Chances are if you’re an Anime fan you’ve already enjoyed Isekai: Sword art online(A-1 Pictures) and Inuyasha(Sunrise) are examples.

What we know so far

While details thus far have been limited the upcoming series does have an official website with baseline information. An introduction that reads

Deadly crazy party of the baddest villains land themselves in ISEKAI!!!
The most dangerous & bizarre fantasy adventure unveiled…!!!’

Key contributors are then mentioned. Albeit most notably chief animation director of Jujutsu Kaisen, Eri Osada, as director and storied manga artist Akira Amano in charge of character design. And finally, a link to the first official trailer of the upcoming adaptation. The sub-60-second-long trailer largely features the newly animated Joker and Harley Quinn in action, along with a variety of monsters and beasts in true Isekai fashion.

The animation that has gone viral

As previously mentioned main characters, Joker and Harley Quinn, were at the forefront of the official trailer; and I must say they look awesome. A successful anime adaptation is so refreshing. This reminds me of the brief stint where I found myself a fan of an animated Spongebob spoof series on Tiktok. There’s something compelling about the storytelling and dramatics that come with the anime Feng Shui; so much so that I found myself enthralled in an Isekai of Bikini Bottom.

With that being said I can only imagine what Osada and Wit Studios are cooking up with the weight of some of DC’s most famous characters.
