Depression is the past.
I found myself inside a dark barroom with low ceilings, attempting small talk at a long-haired stranger. It could have been the accented charms of voo-doo in her voice, or the fact that I’d drank my own body weight in brown liquors, but she said something that forever changed my life:

“Have you ever meditated?”

Not going to lie, hearing her explain that simply sitting cross-legged with my eyes closed humming to myself would bring peace was insulting to my intelligence. However, her capacity to persuade was palpable, the least I could resist was to humor her and give enlightenment a go, so we went back to her place to find a seat.

Hoping it was foreplay, I followed her mandate to get comfortable with the travel pillow she set on the floor beside her nightstand. It was then an instruction to find my breath was given. Without one clue as to what that meant, I inhaled deeply and held it… absolutely nothing happened.

Twenty minutes later both my legs were asleep, my mind was irritable, and I needed a drink. As I rummaged through the minibar, she made me swear to continue the…
