Dustin Pedroia leaves game early to attend child’s birth

The Boston Red Sox were hosting the New York Yankees on Wednesday night, which also happened to be one day past the due date of Dustin Pedroia’s pregnant wife, Kelli. And almost a year since the Red Sox were relevant.

Here is a picture of Kelli during the pregame.

At some point during the sixth inning Kelli went into labor and the video below shows manager Bobby Valentine informing Pedroia that its time for him to leave and attend the birth of his child.

Do you think if the Red Sox were still in the playoff hunt they would’ve just told him after the game? Do you think the new baby will call Valentine, Uncle Bobby?
