Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is preparing for his trial on the alleged murder of former friend Odin Lloyd. The court process started on Friday with jury selection.

One potential juror showed up wearing a Boston Bruins jersey, screaming “Go Pats!” That potential juror was told to leave. The court had previously made a decision to ban any and all sports paraphernalia from the court room.

This is a pretty genius way to get out of jury duty. According to MA state law, anyone who is selected for jury duty must be compensated by their employer for the first 3 days. After that, the state pays jurors $50 a day. The Hernandez case is estimated to go as long as 6 weeks, which could put most people living paycheck-to-paycheck in debt.

Genius.
